“Ow… It hurts…” Felicia Buchanan groaned as a pounding headache assaulted her senses, accompanied by a constant buzzing in her ears filled with ridicule.
“Who does she think she is? Confessing her feelings at Mr. Campbell’s wedding? Look at her, does she even deserve someone like Mr. Campbell with her body size?”
“It’s not a matter of whether she deserves him or not. She is married already, yet she flirts shamelessly with Mr. Campbell all day long! She’s the most shameless ever!”
“Thank goodness Mr. Campbell loves his wife and didn’t pay any attention to that big b*tch! It’s a shame for Mr. Connolly though to have married such a creature. Not only does he have to put up with her every day, but he’s also constantly being cuckolded!”
These sharp voices, like daggers piercing her eardrums, woke Felicia up abruptly. Looking around, she stood frozen in place. The empty room had an old set of wooden tables and chairs, with an old-fashioned kettle and enamel jar placed on top. There was no decoration to speak of in the room. The cement floor was unevenly plastered, and instead of the familiar ceiling and crystal chandelier she was accustomed to, there was only a round bare light bulb. An old green ceiling fan slowly rotated, emitting a creaking sound due to years of neglect. It was reminiscent of the 1980s.
The 1980s?! Felicia’s heart raced as she looked down at her body, only to realize a terrifying fact—she had traveled through time. Just a moment ago, she had been checking her designs one by one, too busy to even date a man. At the age of 30, she was finally going to make her mark on the international stage, only to be crashed by a hanging lamp at the press conference. And now she was here.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through her head as memories that didn’t belong to her flooded in. It turned out that the previous host of her body was a married woman who had wed Damien Connolly, the director of a state-owned enterprise. In theory, the previous host, who was lazy and overweight and had a terrible reputation, was not good enough for Damien. After all, Damien, although born into poverty, was intelligent and ambitious, and had worked his way up from a poverty-stricken rural village to become a director in a state-owned enterprise. Being able to work at such an enterprise in the 1980s was enough to make anyone envious, not to mention being the director at one. Countless eligible young women could only dream of being introduced to him by matchmakers.
Unfortunately, Damien’s father worked in the same place as the previous host’s father, and due to an accident, the previous host’s father tried to save Henry Connolly, Damien’s father, from a faulty machine but had one of his hands crushed in the process, leaving him with a disabled arm. The previous host’s mother was a snob who not only demanded compensation from the Connolly Family but also used this opportunity to secure a good match for her lazy and unmarriageable daughter by marrying her off to Damien.
Damien had no choice but to fulfill his obligation and marry the girl, but he couldn’t accept her. On the second day of their marriage, he used work as an excuse to rush back to the factory and avoided the previous host like the plague. However, the previous host was shameless and hated the rural lifestyle, so she forcibly moved into the staff residence at the factory. She also despised her husband for being boring and set her sights on the polite and gentlemanly Samson Campbell, even though she was already a married woman. She went so far as to confess her feelings for Samson at his own wedding.
The scene was plunged into chaos like a level 10 earthquake. Before the groom and bride could react, the previous host fell and hit her head on a pillar due to her excessive weight. She fainted on the spot and was dragged away by several burly groomsmen while they complained about her.
Felicia was dumbstruck. She had never imagined that the previous host would be such a terrible person. And even though she had traveled through time, she couldn’t help but wonder how the previous host could have such a large, bloated body with so much fat around her belly. Felicia’s headache grew worse as she walked to the table and picked up the mirror. Looking at it, she was so frightened that she almost threw it away.
Having spent a long time in the fashion design industry, she had seen many slim and slender models, but she had never seen such an overweight woman before. Her whole body was practically a ball of fat, with her hands, feet, and belly squeezed into ill-fitting clothes that highlighted the layers of fat.
While others might have a double chin at most, she had three chins, making it difficult to even look down. What was even more terrifying was how unkempt and greasy she looked. Her hair was sticky and clumped together, and her scalp was covered in white dandruff. Her hands and feet were filthy, with mud in between her fingers and nails that were long and black with dirt. It was enough to make anyone’s scalp tingle.
Feeling a splitting headache from the overwhelming stench in the air and the sight of the shabby little house, Felicia pinched her forehead and stood up.
Regardless of anything else, Felicia knew that she needed to lose weight and earn money for her future. For now, she had to at least tidy up the house. After all, how could anyone live in this kind of place? The garbage and food were mixed together on the floor, and the noodles that had spilled onto the ground were covered in green and black mold. Two flies the size of thumbs crawled around right in front of her, and some spilled soup had been stepped on, leaving oily footprints all over the floor.
The kitchen and bathroom were sights that would make one’s stomach churn. The vegetable remnants and decayed leaves were strewn about the floor, making it almost impossible to take a single step without stumbling. The sink was overflowing with unwashed plates that had been languishing there for an entire week. The enamel bowls were coated in a noxious combination of food scraps, emitting a repulsive odor that would make even the strongest of stomachs wince. A swarm of flies buzzed around, adding to the putrid atmosphere.
Thinking about how she had just traveled through time and had nowhere else to go, Felicia took a deep breath and said to herself, “Let’s clean up first. After all, I need to live here for a while.”
As for what was next, she was a strong woman of the 21st century who had come to the 1980s. She knew that she had to seize the opportunity and start her own fashion brand from her past life. She would once again go to Palomar Fashion Week and fulfill her unrealized dream from her previous life where she died in vain!
