Because only the descendants of Lord Matthias, the very first werewolves ever recorded in the history. Being the first wolve with abilities, only his descendants were allowed to gain that position.

Fortunately, for Lord Matthias descendants each one of them possessed an ability each, only with ability they can be able to attain the position of the Alpha King but with some tasks attached to it.
